The 3HP Blender

So I’m back at that warehouse store (see The Exercise Factor page) and I see a blender being demonstrated and a bunch of people watching. I stop for a second, see the price and think, “I could buy and ruin almost 20 blenders for that same price! That’s nuts” and I walk on by and finish my shopping.

About a week goes by when I am talking a friend of mine, Carter, before Christmas, 2009, telling him that I am planning to eat raw foods M-F throughout 2010 and with that in mind bought a juicer, new processor, which we needed anyway, and a dehydrator. Carter looks at me and asks me if I have seen the blender that is being demonstrated at the warehouse store! I slowly said yes, then he went on to tell me of all the wonderful things this blender can do and if I was going to eat raw, I really needed this blender.

Long and funny story short, I have a 3 HP blender that is louder than a lawnmower but really rocks! While you can blend a rake handle, an iPod and just about anything else you can think of in this thing, it is best on food. I will admit that I have been tempted to try something a bit denser, but the fact that it would cancel out the warranty on a $400 dollar blender keeps me in check.

So far, I have had mostly successes but I have also found out that there are some things not meant to eat (or blend) raw. At this writing, brussel sprouts are at the top of that list and my friend Jen has notated that, if using ginger in the blender less is more. Oh yeah, we have an entire group of 3HP blender users now in the neighborhood so we are swapping stories and recipes as well as doing a bit of experimenting.

Part of what you will see is the ups and down of blender usage and the foods we make good and bad. This will be a sort of; try this; don’t you dare try that! While there are several 3HP Blenders on the market, the BlendTec is the one we bought, just in case you were wondering.
